#Veeam backup full

  • Entire VM restore - Achieve full VMware disaster recovery by restoring an entire VM directly from a Veeam backup file or VMware replica back to its original or even a new location.
  • Instant VM disk recovery - immediately restore only the individual virtual machine disks directly from a backup file or as First Class Disks (FCD) in VMware.
  • Instant VM Recovery - quickly achieve VMware disaster recovery of a single VMware virtual machine by running them directly from your Veeam backups to improve recovery time objectives (RTOs).
  • Recovering some or all parts of a VMware VM during loss or even VMware disaster recovery can be achieved just as you need it - the key is choosing the best method for your recovery scenario:
  • VMware replication replicas created from VMware snapshots allow you to perform both on-site and off-site replication - on site for highly available virtual machines and off site for disaster recovery purposes.
  • Key data protection and recovery applications, like Veeam Backup & Replication, inherently take advantage of VMware replication and VMware snapshots to provide replicas specific to points in time that can be used to instantly recover a VMware replication virtual machine.
  • When used as part of your data protection strategy, VMware replication can provide yet another layer of fast recovery that is needed to meet the increasing demands of short recovery time objectives (RTOs) when recovering an entire virtual machine.
  • VMware replication tackles many use cases, including local data protection, disaster recovery between sites or providers and data center migration capabilities.
  • VMware replication is a built-in feature to VMware that helps to provide disaster recovery of VMware virtual machines.
  • For most cases, you can perform a single-pass backup of VMware, taking advantage of your backup solution working directly with VMware vSphere Storage APIs for Data Protection to ensure that all VMware VMs, their storage and configuration are protected and ready for recovery.
  • Determine which VMware VMs will need to be protected and which ones will need to be excluded from backup.
  • If you plan to use any scripts prior to or post running the VMware backup job, create these before you begin.
  • Determine if any VMware VM backups will address any applications that require specific-processing to achieve application-consistent VMware backups.
  • Check to see if both the primary and/or secondary storage locations for the VMware backup have adequate space available.
  • Choose the best time - typically VMware backup, like any other core backup, is performed during off-hours.
  • To properly perform VMware backup and VMware VMs backup, you need to ensure that you have the time, throughput and storage needed to perform the backup.

  • Begin by choosing a backup solution, like Veeam Backup & Replication, that understands and is designed to handle and take advantage of the dynamic nature of VMware backup.
  • Find a Veeam Accredited Service Partner.
  • Alliance Partner Integrations & Qualifications.
  • Veeam Backup & Replication Community Edition.
  • Veeam is a great piece of software, and Synology is really solid.

None of this is hard to set up, it sounds like a pretty simple environment. Backup copy would be better, but either of these will depend on the connection speed between sites.

You can add the 2nd Synology in as a repository in Veeam, and then create Backup Copy jobs going to it, or you can use the sync software that Synology has (built in) to sync the two units.

If you want to use a 2nd Synology, you can do that in one of two ways. If the host were to go down, you would need to remediate it, then restore that Veeam virtual server (you can do this from a laptop, accessing the Synology, and restore the Veeam server), then power on the Veeam server, and restore the rest.

    #Veeam backup install

You can always install the Veeam software on any other computer to use for restores if necessary. Having the Veeam (virtual machine) on the host is not a bad thing, as it allows it to "hot-add" the other virtual machines making for very fast backups.
